Chocolate Coffee Beans

One of the great things about food is that you are only limited by your imagination. Somewhere someone decided to take some roasted coffee beans and concoct a chocolate covered treat . Today many people make their own chocolate covered treats from coffee beans. Also, chocolate covered coffee beans are basically made by coating roasted coffee beans and adding some kind of chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or even white chocolate. Keep in mind what kind of roast you prefer in your coffee and you can extrapolate that to the chocolate covered candy version. If you enjoy a dark roast like Espresso, then you will probably like the Espresso roast dipped in dark chocolate. This type of chocolate covered coffee bean will be slightly bitter and intense.

Which Type of Coffee Bean to Use What is the best way to make these treats yourself? If you want to try to make your own recipe, you may want to stop in at your nearest coffee house and purchase a small bag of the chocolate covered beans and see if you like them. If you decide to pursue cooking these treats, then choose a quality coffee bean, mostly likely the Arabica coffee bean. Ensure you pick the roast you drink coffee with. Don’t try a dark roast like the French or Espresso roast if you do not like to drink that flavor of coffee.  Always strive to get the best coffee beans available.

Picking the Right Chocolate The same rules apply when determining the right chocolate to use. Generally, if you are going use a light roast, then use a milk or white chocolate. If you prefer a darker roast, use dark chocolate.

Chocolate Coffee Bean Recipe
8 ounces Hershey milk chocolate or dark chocolate
8 ounces whole coffee beans

A simple way to make these delicious treats is to buy your favorite chocolate like Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar and your favorite coffee roast. Mix one cup (8 oz) of your favorite chocolate and 1 cup. of your favorite coffee roast. Place the beans on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Turn on the oven to 325 degrees and roast the beans for 20 minutes.

You then melt the chocolate over low heat being careful not to burn the chocolate. The best method is to use a double boiler. The double broiler allows you to place the chocolate in the top pan with boiling water underneath. After the chocolate is melted, turn off the heat and let cool for 10-15 minutes. Place the roaster beans in the chocolate and mix well. Take the individual beans and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Allow to cool 4-6 hours before sampling. You place in the refrigerator to speed the cooling process. This will allow the chocolate to harden and make a nice hard chocolate coffee bean.
